Privacy and your records
A laboratory holds the most sensitive category of personal information there is. Here is what we do with it, in plain words.
What we hold
Your name, contact details, national identity number, date of birth, sex and age, the tests you were sent for, the results, and who ordered them. Nothing else.
Who can see it
Only staff whose role requires it, and access is checked on every single request rather than trusted from a login. A receptionist can raise your bill and cannot see your results. Where a collection centre is involved, its staff see that centre's patients and nobody else's.
How results travel
By a link that is useless without your date of birth, over a message that names no test. Not by email attachment, and not read out over the telephone to whoever answers.
How long we keep it
Clinical records are kept, not deleted. A report handed to a patient years ago must still resolve when they ask for a copy, and a result is often only meaningful next to the one before it.
What we never do
We do not sell data, we do not pass contact details to anybody selling anything, and no patient name, result or identity number is ever written into an operational log file.
